"Taco" Bob Hyde
Assistant Director 1989-1990
Director 1990-1993
In September of 1993 Taco and his wife Mary Beth were leading a group ride around Mt Rainier after a general meeting. A river rafting bus crossed the center line and killed them. The membership of the Tacoma HOG chapter and the local biker community was overwhelmed with grief. Over 1000 motorcycles rode to the cemetery the day of their funeral.
Bob was a very charismatic fellow and well loved by the staff and students at Jefferson Elementary where he was a custodian. A memorial garden was built at the school by a group of Eagle scouts and Tacoma HOG members. A few years ago the school was torn down and we wondered what would become of the garden and plaque honoring Taco. The principle promised that some sort of memorial would be placed at the new school. We that knew Taco and Mary Beth are very pleased that the promise was kept.
The school is at N. 12th and Stevens street in Tacoma
